Do I need a mixer or audio interface?

No. DeckBeam listens to the room through your phone's built-in microphone, the same way a person would. There's no cable to run from a mixer, no audio interface, and nothing to configure in your DJ software — if the music is audible in the room, DeckBeam can react to it.

Do I need an actual laser projector?

No. DeckBeam is designed to run through a standard video projector, not a laser. Its patterns are built to read as laser-style beams once there's haze or fog in the air catching the light — no laser diode, no Class 3B/4 hardware, and none of the venue certification or safety interlocks a real laser rig requires.

Do I need a fog or haze machine?

For the full beam effect, yes — haze or fog in the air is what makes a projector's light visible as cutting beams rather than a flat image on a wall. A small haze machine is enough; you don't need heavy theatrical fog. Without haze, DeckBeam's patterns still display normally, just as a projected visual rather than beams in the room.

What screens does DeckBeam work with?

Any external display your iPhone or iPad can drive — a projector over wired HDMI or wirelessly over AirPlay is what gives the laser-beam effect through haze, but DeckBeam also works with a regular TV as a straightforward audio-reactive visual. The same output plays on your phone's live preview at once.

Can I use my own logo or a GIF as a pattern?

Yes. Alongside the built-in procedural patterns, DeckBeam can import any photo or animated GIF from your library and drive it the same way — brightness and motion react to the beat just like a built-in pattern.

Does DeckBeam need an internet connection?

No. Beat detection, pattern rendering, and the external display output all run entirely on-device. DeckBeam makes no network requests during normal use.
